ANALYSING POSTERS

The China Hustle
American flag badge vs. China flag cufflink gives an indication as to what countries are involved
The white, male hands and slogan 'There are no good guys in this story' shows the dominant gender of the film; this attracts male audiences. Also, the rise-en-scene of the smart and expensive suit, paired with the dollar sign instead of the 'S' has connotations of heists and hints at the genre. Expensive look of the poster shows how it will be a blockbuster-type movie.

Ready Player One
By holding his hand in the air, I'm able to tell he's one of the protagonists as his body language suggests he's triumphant. Also, his challenging and confident direct stare connects with the audience, drawing us in. The age certificate of the film is PG-13 as it's often in teenage years that people begin to find an interest in video games. However, this certificate could be this as the car and aliens holding weapons could indicate action - action often concludes to violence. Despite this, the range of ages of the people on the poster shows how the creators have taken into account the accompanying adults. The single girl on the cover, and the fact she's beside our hero and larger than the others, could suggest she's significant/ a love interest.

This magazine, appropriately named 'Rouge', is a reference to the magazine Vogue. This however, breaks the conventions of fashion magazine as the main image isn't of a woman clothed in dresses and wearing make-up. The masthead is stating that it's different to that, and their way of supporting this is by showing a woman in sports attire - not a stereotypical representation of women. The female percentage of the audience isn't put-off by the sports however, as cover lines talk about fashion and make up in an empowering way ' 'looks that could kill'. Her stance is also empowering. The male percentage of the audience is encouraged to purchase it however, as her clothes are short and tight which sexualises her (male gaze).
